i there! I’m here on behalf of #Traditional-Artists to make sure you get all the feedback this piece has received at our last Critique Night!

I hope it is helpful and you can use it for your future works! :aww:

“This artwork is a little bit messy and a little bit crudely drawn and a lot amazing :D It's different, and contemporary, so the "messy-crude" style is just that - a fun style. I think this drawing would look great in young, urban, hipster environment. I spent some time observing your unique mark-making style. The lines of the marker, with a slight overlap and bleed, plus the purposeful bleed of the dots you created with refills - really interesting and quite different! I love the restricted neutral tone of the background and how that sets off the dots. I also enjoy the distinct shape of your composition. There is a lot to like about this! My only hesitations are 1. eyebrows? And 2. smoking. I think when you are going to feature someone smoking, I bet you already know this, but people have opinions about smoking and they are likely to bring it up. Anyway, great work and I look forward to seeing more of your portfolio!”

“I like this work for its originality. The background foreground effect is a little over the top but it gives it an interesting play of positive and negative space. It has very nice line work in the hand. The cigarette is a little hard to read.
The color polka dots are over the top and they definitely set the tone for its contemporary attitude. It gives the flat handling of the background a context.
I wish the dark halo was a little better handled. I want a better treatment in general but am happy with its quirkyness.”

“I'm really fond of this, in a way. I love the minimalist style, and the lining only adds to it. It's quite unusual and quite intriguing at the same time. The anatomy looks mostly fine, maybe the base of the thumb is a bit too slim and I think that the forefinger is bent in a way that isn't really possible but those are minor issues. What I would like too see much more is the mouth - even behind the hand parts of it should be visible (oh, and eyebrows would possibly be nice). On the other hand, I am seriously envying you for being able to draw such great noses! Really, I love this simple but very effective way, especially with the little squiggle at the end of the bridge. Another thing that might be improvable is the dark parts around the face - I very much like how they give the eye focus, but I'm not sure about making them so rectangular. Especially those around the hand and arm rather draw my eye, and where most other forms are either light lines or round this is a bit distracting. But it's the splashes of colour that sell this to me, they give it life and originality. It's a beautiful concept, and you made a good job of it!”

“A nice piece of pop art. The clash of textures and patterns is what really sets the funky tone for this piece. A play of line weight would really set this piece apart. Next time try making the lines thicker the further forward the line comes to the viewer. It would at a lot of depth to a seemingly flat composition. I like the horizontal lines in the negative space, as it adds visual interest. Without them it would probably be pretty boring. I like that the dots are bright colours, but aren't obnoxious, but I think just one more in the wrist would help. And I kind of wish it was cropped a little more square, because there is too much negative space in the bottom right corner, iny my opinion. This is a good rough draft of a piece that could be amazing!”
